Why Optical? A bit of background
1080p video needs about 5Gbps bandwidth which is possible over copper cable up to around 20m. 4K/30fps (with HDR) requires about 11Gps. To transmit full-featured 4K/60fps (with HDR) we need 18Gbps bandwidth.
Bandwidth on copper cables rapidly decreases with length. For example, the maximum length for a high-quality copper 18Gbps compliant HDMI cable is around 5m. Beyond this, issues will start to occur. One of the benefits of using a Fibre Optic cable is that it is not susceptible to outside interference from mains supplies or other EMF sources.
